[Till I figure out here to do this otherwise, set your L/R margins to .5 inch - New Romans TT 12pt for easier reading.] Hi Guys, Spent a bit of time in the library today, tried to check out the larger book on Barbados. No dice. Don't know why, there are two volumes of each one. They let me check out the one I extracted all those people from and sent just lately, but not the other. Dumb! So will take some time to get through that in the library, taking notes, and then entering in the computer. Could use a laptop. Found several other books on Barbados also. Cheryl, one is the one that WTHR1 mentioned on Ancestral Digs last night, Families of Barbados. Didn't have much time but I don't find a lot encouraging at the moment. There are tons of Allens, though it is spelled ALLEYNE or something like that. This wouldn't matter much, except I don't find the first names I'm looking for. In a different book I find JACOB AND PRISCILLA ALLEN there. But from everything we've seen, PRISCILLA should not have been there. I FIND JACOB ALLEN as an adjoining property owner, but I don't find him much in association with other ALLENS. They were both named in her father's will, given property in Bermuda. In Bermuda, I find them with a son named JACOB ALLEN. As I said, I did not have much time today, so just scanned, took no notes (and remembered little). Looked in SC the other day (same situation, time wise). In Charles town, I find mention that "WILLIAM ALLEN was son of PRISCILLA ALLEN, now PRISCILLA ROSE." D: 19 Nov 1694.............. this too early.. scratch her. Not sure if this was the wife of a JACOB ALLEN. I will have to take a long look at all of the above in depth when I find some time. I have lately been informed that quite a few people migrated from SC to NC back then. I would have thought otherwise. Bill O, I have looked at ALLENS OF THE SOUTHERN STATES a number of times but can't find any connections with ours. It appears that they tracked certain Allens and didn't spend time on a number of the others (there were a bunch). Since you're going to KHS in Frankfort, I'll give you one to check. I have the following from Debi Cox in Nashville: "Edgecombe Co., NC Deed {Book} 3 p. 239 CHARLES ALLEN of Pitt Co., NC to Owen Cravey of Edgecomb[e Co.,] 117 acres for 75 pounds on the south side of Tar River 7 Feb., 1777, Witnesses: PRICILLA JOHNSON, GABRIEL ALLEN, Thomas Belcher, and Drury Stokes...." Also same book, page 322, "land of David Hines which adjoins GABRIEL ALLEN." I have checked Edgecombe Co. deed books in Baton Rouge and cannot find these two entries. There are several different books and the above format seems to follow that of at least one of them but if you can find and verify I would appreciate it. I find GABRIEL ALLEN in Edgecombe in 1780 when he sells 5 acres. Then he gets a land grant of 160 acres in Anson Co. in 1782. Then in 1787 he is mentioned in a will in Edgecombe, and is listed in the 1790 NC census in Edgecombe. I have other entries of him but nothing to do with him owning or selling property (none later than the census). If you should come across GABRIEL ALLEN after 1790 selling his property I would appreciate it. He moved from NC to TN some time in the 1790s but I haven't been able to establish when. Appreciate anything you can find. Thanks. Bill S.
