| 4 | I have not found Melvin's birth record, but he always told people that he was born in Terre Haute, Vigo, IN. I suspect, though, that he was born in Jackson Township, Clay, IN, where his sister Goldie was born. Terre Haute was the nearest city that people in California might recognize. Though it is possible that he, being the oldest, was born somewhere different than his siblings.

| 27 | On 14 June 1918 a baby boy was born in Clay County, Fred Lockwood JAMES, the son of Fred JAMES and Golden LOCKWOOD (from Clay County, Indiana, Birth Records (1882-1920), Book H-14, page 89). The boy died one week later, 21 June 1918, in Dick Johnson Township, Clay County, IN (from Clay County, Indiana, Death Records, Book H-19, page 62). There are many similarities here to Goldie Elizabeth (DONHAM) LOCKWOOD and her family: "Fred" was the name of Goldie's father Ferdinand, "LOCKWOOD" was the name of her husband Lot Dean, "JAMES" was the name of her aunt and uncle Oliver and Melissa, and the name "Golden" is like "Goldie". But who was Fred Lockwood JAMES and how was he related?
